The Lyndon Baines Johnson Museum of San Marcos has canceled plans to hold Spring Shindig 2017 this April at the Meadows Center at Spring Lake in San Marcos.
“We greatly appreciate the support we’ve received for this event and will plan a future event to benefit the Claudia Taylor (Lady Bird) Johnson Endowment for the museum,” said Ed Mihalkanin, Board President. “We had a very successful benefit fund raiser last year and will continue to develop events to support our museum collection and programs.”
The “Race for Space,” featuring an Apollo EMU (Extravehicular Mobility Unit) Spacesuit used for training, is on display at the museum until February 4, 2017, courtesy of NASA (the National Aeronautics and Space Administration). Other special events coming up this year include the spring and fall lectures with noted speakers and the annual Golf Tournament in June.
Located at 131 N. Guadalupe Street in San Marcos, the LBJ Museum commemorates President Johnson’s formative years as a student in San Marcos at Texas State Teachers College (Texas State University) from 1927-1930. The museum board has created the endowment to honor the legacy of Lady Bird Johnson and her contributions to President Johnson’s career and to community and highway beautification across the nation.
The museum features unique exhibits of his days as a college student and as a teacher in Cotulla Texas. On the square in downtown San Marcos, the museum invites visitors and tours.
The LBJ Museum is free and open to the public with hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday each week. The museum also has an auditorium and a meeting room available for rent for special events.
